The Unterlinden Museum in Colmar

Whether you're an art lover or simply curious, the Unterlinden Museum is an essential stop during your time in Colmar! The most admired work in the museum? The Issenheim Altarpiece.

Housed in a former 13th-century Dominican convent, the Unterlinden Museum offers a visitor journey spanning nearly 7,000 years of history, from prehistory to 20th-century art. Whether you're an art lover or simply curious, it's an essential stop during your time in Colmar!

The Gothic cloister, built between 1280 and 1289, is considered the most complete in Alsace.

The museum has a rich cultural identity, connected by an underground gallery to the new building designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron and to the former municipal baths from the early 20th century.

Let yourself be swept away by its various collections of archaeology, hunting and war weapons, ancient art, decorative arts, and finally modern and contemporary art, which hold works by major artists such as Monet, Picasso and Dubuffet. A rich collection that will take you on a journey through time.

The most admired work in the museum? The Issenheim Altarpiece. A true treasure of the collection painted in the 16th century, this polyptych made up of painted panels and a carved chest depicts episodes from the life of Christ and Saint Anthony.
